Boy Genius

As the saying goes, “You can’t choose your parents.” So, safe to say, Carter didn’t choose to be the son of a mathematician, he was born that way. In his early years, his dad, Kennon, taught him to do addition while he learned to swim. It’s a game that Carter – likely 2 at the time – named, “Underwater sea counting.” Carter would swim underwater, his dad would hold out a couple fingers on each hand, and then Carter would return to the surface to declare the total number of fingers. It was actually a lot of fun, and it kickstarted his development. As Carter’s math prowess exceeded the number of fingers on his dad’s hands, he would count Matchbox cars, and began to learn multiplication by counting in groups. It was a fascinating childhood and might explain his love of cars!
Throughout his early elementary years, summers and weekends regularly included supplementary math sessions with his dad. Short and sweet, these sessions meant that his skills were always progressing, never regressing. In fifth grade, Carter’s principal granted Carter permission to study online during math class. Carter completed 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math in the blink of an eye, and won the Math Superstars competition for Manatee County.
Middle school was a challenge because most middle schools don’t offer classes beyond geometry, so in 8th grade his family moved back to Sarasota County so that he could attend Pine View School. After 6th grade, Carter scored a 760/800 on the SAT and qualified for the Duke TIP and Johns Hopkins SET programs. In 8th grade, he completed precalculus, and went to the state MathCOUNTS competition in Orlando.
National Merit Scholar

High school brought the COVID pandemic, but Carter’s brain never stopped problem solving. In 9th grade, he scored a perfect 5 on the Calculus BC exam, as well as a perfect 800 on the SAT math exam. With everyone confined to their homes because of COVID, and his dad being busier than ever, Carter started tutoring too! In 10th grade, Carter completed Multi-Variable Calculus as well as Differential Equations. In 11th grade, his PSAT score qualified him to become a National Merit Scholar. In 12th grade, he was the math and physics specialist for his championship Academic Olympiad team, and his MathWorks Math Modeling team received honorable mention in their national competition. Carter graduated from Pine View School in 2023, and will attend USF Tampa in their Honors College. His hard work earned him a full Benacquisto Scholarship and a generous stipend through USF’s National Merit Scholars program.
Carter – The Math, Stats & Physics Tutor
Carter was a great tutor for our 13 year old son. He helped him stay on track and use his time efficiently during the FLVS geometry class. Doing geometry on FLVS without Carter would have been a nightmare (we tried for a few weeks). Carter was a lifesaver. He was on task, personable, knowledgeable, and dependable. He helped move our son through the modules with no complaints from our son. He assisted in problem solving and really understanding the material so that he was able to get an A in the class and score very high on the EOC. We would highly recommend Carter as a tutor for anyone struggling in a math class or for anyone who needs assistance due to the class being online/FLVS.

Because Carter tutored from home throughout his high school years, I have had the chance to eavesdrop, as well as sit in on several of his sessions over the years. As you might expect, the apple doesn’t fall from the tree. I am very pleased with his tutoring abilities. It must be in his DNA! Carter works well with students struggling in algebra 1 or above. He’s a little rusty in geometry, but he can do FLVS geometry (which is a little narrower in scope). He can also help with SAT math prep (he has 3 perfect SATs, and 2 perfect PSATs), ACT math prep (he didn’t actually study for the ACT because I don’t believe in taking both tests, but his high school required it, and he still got a perfect 36), AP Statistics (2 years), or AP Physics (4 years). He helped one of his classmates raise her SAT math score over 100 points, so he can truly make a difference. He does a great job with test prep and homework support, but he is not well suited for summer enrichment. He doesn’t have a degree in math education, so he not well equipped to just make things up as he goes.
Carter does all of his own scheduling, pricing and billing. All of his sessions must be prepaid (@drmccaa on Venmo) at the time they are reserved. His time is valuable to him – especially, now that he’s in college – so his cancellation policy is the same: cancellations or postponements requested less than 48 hours in advance will be billed as if the session occurred.
