A. B., Nov. 2021 – My daughter took 2 SAT tests prior to working with Mr. McCaa. She wasn’t happy with her test scores and each time she felt more discouraged. A. B., July 2021 – If you are a self proclaimed “math hater” or often catch yourself saying “I’m not a math person,” join the club. Last year I took AP Calc and knew it was going to be a tough year when I failed the first test. It was on Pre-Calc… Kennon was able to explain concepts in a matter of minutes that I failed to grasp after sitting through a whole class period. He will take the time to patiently explain to you that missing piece of knowledge and do so without becoming passive aggressive (unlike most high school math teachers after you ask them literally one question). Mr. Kennon has formulated multiple study guides and other resources (available to all of his students) that help one understand the topic thoroughly. Our sessions were interactive, engaging, and I never felt embarrassed to ask for clarification. Many times, I was able to finish my nightly Calc homework in a 30 minute session. I did well on the AP Exam and got an A in the class not because I am a math whiz, but because I received great instruction. Asking for help is certainly not an easy thing to do, but when you find yourself struggling, it is the right thing to do. If you are a student, I promise the other kids in class are just as confused as you are. My 7th grade son was preparing for the SAT to qualify for the Duke and Johns Hopkins programs while my daughter needed a little extra help finding the joy in math. A. H., November 2018 – My first experience with Kennon was when he was a student teacher teaching Algebra. I’d be lying if I said I was an exceptional student. Before he began teaching my class, I was frustrated with coursework and only getting a C in the class. But Kennon had an immediate impact on me as a student. My grades improve week-by-week. He made class as fun as possible while still doing a great job teaching us math. Kennon’s energy for math is contagious. Even if math isn’t your thing (I’m a communications professional, but still use math every day), it’s hard not to absorb some of passion he brings to the subject. Had I not had Kennon as a teacher along the way, I could have very easily become discouraged, given up, let my grades slip and completely changed the trajectory of my life. I’m plenty of years removed from high school math classes, but I can say — without a doubt — Kennon was one of the very best teachers I had. If me or my children were ever in a position of needing help in math — Kennon and Transformative Tutoring is who I would turn to.
H.H.T. October 2018 – Math is not a study of approximations or guesses. In fact, it has an incredibly low tolerance level for errors. Answers are precise and must be exact. This means there’s really no room for error when finding the right math tutor either. I truly believe there is not a better teacher of mathematics than Kennon McCaa. He makes math come to life while creating tangible concepts that are transferable to everyday life. Mr. McCaa has the unique and intuitive ability to see where students are breaking down in the process. He meets them where they are and guides them to true understanding. Math is difficult for many because it is not something that comes intuitively or automatically – it takes time, persistence, and perseverance.
